Community Manager, Nomad Citizen

Citizens come from a country, but they belong to a community.

There is no blueprint to build a country on the internet, but without community, is it any more than just borderless services?

To create something that doesn’t exist yet you need someone who thrives doing things that have never been done before. You need an architect who is already living the Nomad life to build the belonging that your Citizens can’t live without.

The Experiment

500 Nomad Citizens In 500 Days

What does it take to onboard 500 Nomad Citizens, seamlessly and joyfully, in 500 days?
Who are they? What do they want? What do they need?
In our new world where anything is possible, what will it take to create a community they couldn’t live without?

What Might Work

Assuming no pre-existing acquisition strategy, no existing platform and a utopian budget, here are some ideas I might run with.

Experience

This Role Was Meant For Me

Experience in community building, product development, or growth.

I have built 3 of my own communities to 20-50k members each. I lead Marketing & growth for BuddyBoss which has over 20,000 customers each building their own unique online community on our platform. I regularly contribute to the scope and UX/UI development of new community product features. I teach community strategy and community design to our members and customers.

I have spent a large part of the last 15 years as a digital nomad, starting and scaling my online community while touring the world. I work remotely 100% of the time and spend at least 3-4 months every year exploring a new part of the world. I currently serve 20,000+ global creators, leaders and experts from Astrologists to Zen Buddhists.

Both myself and my wife have been Soho House Every House members for several years, participated in many health & wellness events and activities with them, we’ve checked 15 of the global houses off our list.

Customer Avatar profiles and Customer Value Journey maps were one of the first exercises I brought with me when I joined BuddyBoss. We use these every day to guide content marketing, advertising and product development decisions. Our community has a strong foundation on four customer segments that we specifically wanted to target with an exhaustive accompanying document detailing the exact strategy to address each of them.

I’m an ENTP with a strong preference for logic and action (Te), a Maker–Scientist-Nurturing Sparketype, and I score highly in Extraversion, Openness, Agreeableness, and Conscientiousness on the Big Five.

I don’t just enjoy connecting people for the sake of it; I do it with intention. I see how people and ideas fit together, and I bring them together to build something meaningful. I’m not just making introductions — I’m designing systems, solving problems, and creating opportunities that lead to real impact.

Nobody is giving us permission to build this new world. If we believe in it, we just have to do it. I emigrated on my own when I was 17 so I could leave the small town life behind and figure out who I wanted to be in the world. Nobody handed me a map, I just figured it out and I’ve been figuring it out ever since.

Before stepping into a marketing role, I worked for a year as the lead in Customer Success after having spent several years building a reputation as a valuable community contributor. I consider myself a highly attuned empathetic leader and passionate spokesperson for the voice of the customer.

As the second most senior leader at our company I regularly work on integrating cross functional teams on various projects, integrating insights from our community through to our product team and handling all product and growth marketing efforts.

My Values

Great Ideas Come From Everywhere

Great ideas come from everywhere, especially from open and honest collaboration. The best idea should win, it shouldn't matter who's idea it was.

Imperfect Action Beats Perfect Planning

The best plan in the world has no value unless it is executed. "Doing things right" is never as effective as "doing the right things" and there are no awards for being busy.

Impact Is More Important Than Intention

I always strive to consider the impact of my actions and my feedback before I give it. I always try to receive feedback with humility in the spirit it was given. Growth is more important than blame.

Lead With Heart

I live on the assumption that all people are fundamentally good and want to help each other succeed. If your heart is in the right place you can move fearlessly and know that you can trust those around you.

Every challenge has an elegant solution

A problem is just an opportunity to discover a solution. The best solution is often the simplest one. Before adding things I always ask what could I take away from this.

I look forward to discussing how we can build belonging everywhere.
